Interview with a principal (10.18)

Principal of Beijing Zhongshan Primary School

Q: How do you increase the diversity of school uniforms without changing the system? How do you think about this problem?

A: Students all over the world wear school uniforms. Japanese school uniforms are strict. The United States advocates freedom. It not only makes school uniforms more uniform and more collective, and avoids comparison among students, but the diversity of school uniforms really still needs to be studied. It’s okay to develop into a uniform system in middle schools, but it’s not ideal to develop into a uniform system in primary schools. Because the child’s growth and development speed is too fast, the child will not be able to wear it next year or even the second half of the year. We are also finding the new method to let the children like it, but also to ensure that the children can still wear it when they grow up, adding a little bit of wear resistance, and not all sportswear. This is the problem we face.

Q: What do you think is the maximum budget that parents can accept?

A: At present, our school uniforms cost more than 200 RMB, which is acceptable to parents. We must require pure cotton, and the child must be comfortable to wear. In fact, it’s okay to be more expensive, but I think it’s meaningless if it’s too expensive, because you want to ban comparisons, and it doesn’t make sense to make the school uniforms so expensive. The difference between our school uniform and other schools is that boys and girls in other schools are all the same color, which I firmly oppose. Boys and girls must be distinguished by color, and color is used to distinguish gender.

I originally wanted to have clothes for different occasions, such as dresses, sportswear, normal clothes, etc., but there are many things including what I think and what you think of, which are difficult to achieve. For example, it’s only half an hour after class. It’s a big hassle to change clothes. I also hope that each sports team will have their own clothes. That is also a manifestation of a sense of honor, but he is really too Hard to achieve.

Because no one in China does this now, our school uniforms are all designed by our school’s art teacher, because it costs too much to hire a designer. Let’s copy some styles of clothes.

Q: Where do you think diversity can go?

A: I think clothing is a kind of cycle, and it may develop in a more fashionable direction. I think this is also a way of thinking.

Q: I saw many schools want to add elements of Hanfu, that is elements of ancient school uniforms, do you think it is feasible?

A: Not feasible and inconvenient. People today are different from the ancients. not realistic

Q: Can the school uniform system be changed?

A: It can’t be changed. It is impossible for ten or twenty years. Because as long as the school group is there, the school uniform should accompany it, because the school uniform is part of the school. During the epidemic, it has been proved that students need to communicate with their classmates, so as long as the school is still there, the school uniform will definitely exist.
